Watch: Jamie Drysdale Scores First Flyers Goal
Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

Tuesday’s Philadelphia Flyers game against the Tampa Bay Lightning was one of multiple special occasions.

The Flyers have been a team in need of timely power play goals, and they’ve gotten some recently. Sunday’s loss to the Ottawa Senators was one such instance. They got another on Tuesday night, and it was a beauty.

Down 3-1 to the Lightning and in search of a power play goal to give the Flyers life, Jamie Drysdale answered the bell with his first Flyers goal. Watch it happen in the clip attached below.

A seeing-eye shot from the high slot never hurt anybody, right? The Flyers and fans will get used to seeing that from a special talent like Drysdale more and more. In addition to his goal-scoring prowess, the Flyers’ young star also excels at walking the line, lateral movement, passing, and using his stick expertly on the rush.

Basically, all of the tools the Flyers want from a modern, two-way defenseman. That’s what the Flyers need to take the next step and compete with teams that have players like that.

Indeed, Philadelphia is certainly a team that is not a finished product, but it’s extremely encouraging that the Flyers seem to continue to be taking the right steps towards getting to that point. By extension, getting power play production consistently is a big part of that process.

Drysdale has already checked a few boxes during his short time in Philly.

Maybe Cam York, who scored a baseball-style goal later in the game against the Lightning, can eventually compliment his buddy from the left side. This is York’s first full season in the NHL, so there’s an aspect of growth for him as well.
