Memphis Grizzlies: GG Jackson Registers Career-High 30 Points in Loss to Thunder
© Petre Thomas-USA TODAY Sports

The Memphis Grizzlies' injury bug hasn't came without significant repercussions this season.

Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, Desmond Bane to name a few, what was thought could be a season of top-five potential in the West quickly dwindled down to being one of the worst teams in the conference after so much talent being sidelined.

Now, the Grizzlies sit outside of Play-In contention at the 13th seed with a 22-43 record, a complete 180 from their second-seeded team from a year ago.

But that's to say there hasn't been much to be excited about for Memphis fans this season, other than 19-year-old rookie GG Jackson who bursted onto the scene in January. 10.6 points on 50.7% shooting in 11 games throughout the month, the sample was short, but it was also very promising.

February was an even bigger testament to that for the 6-foot-9, 210-pound forward – generating 15.1 points but with a lesser field goal percentage at 41.7%. Other than Jaren Jackson Jr., Jackson leads the team in scoring outside of the injured Morant, Smart and Bane.

And on Sunday evening in a loss, he was able to again display his scoring ability in Oklahoma City. He'd drop 30 points – a career-high – in 38 minutes, shooting 10-of-19 from the floor and 3-of-10 from beyond the arc. Jackson is unafraid to shoot the three with high volume, averaging nearly five attempts per game.

It's certainly a great year to use this to Jackson's advantage experimentally, giving him as much playtime as possible before the return of their star players next season. Alongside Morant and co., Jackson's presence will make the team who nearly reached the pinnacle of the West last season that much better on both ends.
