Kyle Busch’s primary sponsor ditch multi-race deal with RCR over 'political environment'
Peter Casey-USA TODAY Sports

One of the big question that prevailed in the NASCAR community when Kyle Busch exited JGR to sign with RCR, was whether the Chevy team would be able to find a big sponsorship deals for the veteran. There was doubts over his marketability as losing primary sponsor was the reason for Busch’s Toyota exit. But Richard Childress proved everyone wrong by roping in huge and diverse partnership deals.

But the team has now found themselves in a tough situation, as 3CHI, one of their multi-race primary sponsor has announced plans to reduce their multi-race deal to just one event. 3CHI, who produces hemp-driven cannabis products, has been with the No:8 Chevy team, now represented by Kyle Busch, for over three years and has won three races in this period with them.

The decision to downsize their deal was made because of the “political environment” over their cannabis products that are aimed at recreation and medicinal purposes. They announced via a statement on 3CHI website that they will only sponsor the championship race at Phoenix Raceway.

After a groundbreaking first 2 seasons where 3CHI was the primary sponsor for the RCR owned 8 car and saw 3 wins in its paint scheme, 3CHI is taking a reduced sponsorship position due to the political environment surrounding hemp-derived cannabinoids, 3CHI’s main product. Because of this, 3CHI is only sponsoring one race in 2024 and that’s the championship race in Phoenix. 3CHI said via a statement.

3CHI also made a revelation about their NASCAR future with Kyle Busch

They also made a statement about the uncertainty over what will be the future of the firm the premier stock car racing series. 3CHI doesn’t have a direct answer as the current political scenario threatens their existence and there are usure if they would be able to make a comeback in the 2025 season.

We get asked often about our future in NASCAR and the truth is it’s a fluid situation given the political uncertainty in the cannabis/hemp industry. To be clear: the support of RCR, NASCAR executives, Kyle, the fans, and the entire NASCAR community has been overwhelmingly positive and supportive and we’ve loved every second of our time in the sport. 3CHI revealed.

In the start of the 2024 season, the contract extension between the two partners were a really enrgising one for RCR, as they had plans to have a long terms partnership with them. Now Childress and Co has to find a suitable replacement for them that matches the values of the team.
