There is still hope that Yadier Molina and Adam Wainwright can set the all-time record for games played as a battery before Molina hangs up his pads this fall. Multiple sources reported Monday that the two-time World Series champion catcher, who has been sidelined for over a month now, will start a rehab assignment with Triple-A Memphis starting on Thursday.

Molina, who turned 40 this month, has been out of the lineup since mid-June due to inflammation in his right knee. If all goes well with his rehab assignment, he should return to the Cardinals' lineup on Aug. 2 for a home game against the Chicago Cubs.
That game on August second is also a scheduled start for Wainwright. The duo, playing their final season together, need just nine more starts down the stretch to set the MLB record for most games as a battery. The record has long been held by Mickey Lolich and Bill Freehan of the Detroit Tigers, who started 324 games together from 1963-75.
